“Busch Blasts Off: Rookie’s Homer Sparks Cubs Win”

Game Recap: Busch’s Bat Ignites Cubs in Win Over Nationals

June 3, 2025 — Wrigley Field, Chicago
The Chicago Cubs powered past the Washington Nationals on Monday night, thanks to a standout offensive performance from rookie Michael Busch, who sparked the lineup and helped secure a much-needed win.

Busch Goes Deep
Busch delivered the big blow early, crushing a three-run home run in the third inning off Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore. The blast gave the Cubs a 4–1 lead and set the tone for the rest of the game. It was Busch’s ninth homer of the season, and his continued power surge is quickly turning heads in the Cubs’ lineup.

Offense Comes Alive
Chicago’s offense, which had struggled in recent outings, broke out with eight hits and six runs. Alongside Busch, Seiya Suzuki added an RBI double, while Cody Bellinger and Nico Hoerner each reached base multiple times and scored key runs.

Strong Outing from Imanaga
On the mound, left-hander Shota Imanaga turned in another quality start, giving up just two earned runs over six innings with seven strikeouts. The bullpen, led by Mark Leiter Jr. and Héctor Neris, shut the door over the final three frames to preserve the 6–3 win.

Looking Ahead
With the victory, the Cubs snapped a three-game skid and gained some momentum heading into the rest of the series. They’ll look to keep their bats hot and continue building on Busch’s breakout performance.

Final Score: Cubs 6, Nationals 3
WP: Shota Imanaga (6–1)
LP: MacKenzie Gore (3–5)
SV: Héctor Neris (12)
